Ayatollah Khamenei said negotiating a nuclear deal with the US would "only bring tougher sanctions" on Iran.

Iran's supreme leader reiterated his deep distrust of Washington.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Wednesday that renegotiating a possible nuclear deal with the Iranian government United States “it will only lead to harsher sanctions” against Tehran, which is why he described Washington's latest moves as a "disappointment."

In this regard, he accused US authorities of seeking to blame Iran. "What they're trying to do is say they're willing to negotiate, but we're the ones who don't want to. Why aren't we willing to do it?" Because we did it for years and this same person threw it all away."He said.

This is how he referred to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, which unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018 and instead imposed a battery of sanctions against the country. These restrictions led Iran to reduce its commitments to the pact until Washington returned to compliance with its clauses.

"What kind of negotiation are we going to have if we know it won't work? This won't lead to a lifting of sanctions; it will only make things worse. We now have capabilities we didn't have last year," he said, according to the Iranian news agency. IRNA.

In this regard, he emphasized that the country now has "strengths and capabilities" it didn't have before and stated that "Iran is the only country that stands up to today's global bullies."

This week, the Ayatollah himself warned that the country would not accept any form of intimidation in negotiations with the international community. "Such insistence is not intended to solve problems: What they want is to dominate and impose their expectations; expectations that Iran will categorically not accept."He said.

On Tuesday, President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran will not negotiate with the United States while receiving threats., and told President Donald Trump to “do whatever he wants,” Iranian state media reported Tuesday.

"It's unacceptable to us that they (the United States) give orders and make threats. I won't even negotiate with you. Do whatever you want.", Pezeshkian said, according to state media.

He also said Trump should be "ashamed" of his treatment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, an apparent reference to their February 28 White House discussion.

Trump abandoned the 2018 nuclear pact in 2015, signed between Iran and six powers and which limited Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, and which occurred during Barack Obama's presidency.

Tehran and Washington have exchanged public messages in recent days about possible negotiations on Iran's controversial nuclear program, its missile programs, and Iran's support for regional terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

Following the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, The Iranian regime enriches uranium far beyond what is permitted and already has 274 kilos enriched to 60% purity, close to the military use of 90%, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
