On November 20, the United States decided to veto a UN resolution calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, saying that the ruling did not impose the release of hostages as a condition.
The UN Security Council voted 14-1 in favor of a resolution that “demands an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire that must be respected by all parties, and further reiterates its demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.”
The text of this failed resolution is inconsistent, since on the one hand it demands an unconditional ceasefire, but on the other it reiterates its demand for the unconditional release of all hostages. In other words, the condition (which would no longer be unconditional) should be the release of all captives. In cases like this, clear and precise language, without ambiguity, is essential for it to be truly obeyed.
US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood said the US would only support a resolution that explicitly calls for the immediate release of the hostages. Wood explained: “Let me say this clearly: There are still seven American citizens in the hands of Hamas. We will not forget them. For our part, we continue to seek a diplomatic solution that brings peace, security and freedom to the Palestinians in Gaza.”
It should be noted that, more than 410 days into this nightmare, there are still 101 hostages in Gaza, suffering hellish conditions, being tortured in different ways: forced to do slave labor, kept in underground tunnels with very little oxygen, denied food and water, permanently threatened with death, humiliated, and young women are brutally raped. We cannot imagine how the children Bibas, Ariel, 5 years old, and Kfir, who has been in captivity for 1 year, without nutrients, sun or vaccines, etc., are developing.
It is a shame that an organization like the UN and its various agencies seek to blame Israel for a war that it did not start, that was imposed on it, just like all the wars that different sectors of the Arab and Muslim world have declared against Israel, for one reason only, because it is a Jewish State, that is, the Jewish one among nations.
Even more shameful has been the search for justifications to accuse Israel, excuses that are easily disproven, such as the pretext of famine, when there is no sign of it. Or the number of victims given by the “Gaza Ministry of Health”; war scholars, even basing their analysis on Hamas figures, which do not stand up to serious statistical study, are not significant compared to other wars, regardless of whether they constitute a tragedy.
More shame on the UN, which does not mention the terrorist, jihadist and genocidal group Hamas in its documents, as well as the protection it provides to UNRWA, which has been acting as an accomplice to Hamas, and there is a great deal of accusatory evidence. But Guterres, Francesca Albanese, UN special rapporteur, who swore to have no conflict of interests, but whose husband worked for a Palestinian ministry, and Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner General, do not even blush when they slander Israel and fail to point out that it faces radical Islamic terrorism. Lazzarini did not flinch when he had to admit that 98 trucks with humanitarian aid “disappeared” right under his nose.
We wonder whether, with the failure to approve this resolution that sought to appease Hamas, which does not and will not feel, under these conditions, reasons to negotiate a ceasefire or the handover of the hostages, UN “officials” together with interested countries could have pushed the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. After all, this Court was established by means of a treaty, the Rome Statute, negotiated within the UN system and it is highly suspicious that, between what happened in the Security Council and the cynical and unjust declaration of the ICC, only a few hours passed. The truth is that the UN and its agencies are plagued by officials who represent dictatorial countries, in which human rights are not respected, much less civil rights. As long as the UN remains in the hands of these petty tyrants, it will continue to fail and create more misfortunes for humanity.
The writer is absolutely right, the UN no longer deserves the respect of the democratic community of the world because they are friends of the terrorists and the tyrants, murderers and terrorist ayatollahs who rule Iran.
