According to official reports, it is estimated that there are about 1.6 million homes in the country that do not have an anti-missile room. This situation takes on special relevance in this context, since since October 7, the launching of rockets towards Israeli territory has continued.
Israel has faced a wave of rockets launched from the Gaza Strip since the start of the war sparked by Hamas on October 7. While many Israelis can take refuge in reinforced concrete rooms built into their apartments and houses, more than 1.6 million homes in the country do not offer their residents such safe haven.
In this sense, the Israeli startup Ortech Defense Systems has one of the most effective solutions to protect the population that does not have shelter in their building or apartment.
Since the beginning of the conflict with Hamas, the startup says it has received more than 10.000 installation orders for its panels in just two weeks.
What Ortech Defense Systems produces are patented wall panels, created from fiberglass and polymers, supported by steel beams, that can protect any room from blast impacts, fragmentation and even forced entry. Installation takes only a week. Additionally, the windows and doors are replaced with airtight steel versions.
Avida Stern, head of business development, explained that the panels are only eight millimeters deep, and that they provide the strength of a protective shelter. In addition, Ortech works together with the Ministry of Defense and the IDF, although for security reasons they cannot provide details of the collaboration.
