A 28-year-old man was seriously injured after being stabbed in central Tel Aviv on Saturday in an attack by a Palestinian terrorist, who was shot dead by a passerby and died instantly, emergency services and police confirmed.
The wounded Israeli was taken to Ichilov hospital in a conscious state with a stab wound to the upper body, the Magen David Adom emergency service said.
The terrorist was identified by security sources as Salah Yahya, 19, a resident of Tulkarem in the northern West Bank, who was illegally in Israel.
"An armed civilian nearby fired and neutralized the terrorist," said Israeli police, who deployed a force including a helicopter.
A man near the scene said he heard more than five gunshots, and a witness at a crowded restaurant nearby said chaos broke out at the scene.
Another witness said three armed civilians ran towards the attacker.

In October, seven people were killed and 16 others injured in a terrorist gun attack in the Yaffa (Yafo) neighborhood in central Israel, in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.
The attack comes on the eve of a ceasefire in Gaza that is due to come into effect on Sunday, with the release of three hostages for 3 Palestinian terrorists in prison, including a number of assassins.
