The French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, explained this Wednesday that four projects of violent actions that were being prepared for the Olympics which will be held from July 26 to August 11.

In an interview with the BFMTV channel, Darmanin explained that the fourth case that is being investigated is that of an 18-year-old young man arrested on Tuesday in the department of Gironde (with capital in Bordeaux) who had "a project of violent action."

The minister confirmed, on the other hand, that the arrest announced yesterday of a Russian citizen who was being monitored by the French secret services is explained because they believe that "he was going to organize destabilization operations", "espionage", perhaps " manipulation of information. He specified that this man had “recently” arrived in France.

He also attributed the dissemination of a video circulating on social networks calling for the murder of Israeli athletes who are going to participate in the Paris Olympic Games to a Russian destabilization operation.

Precisely, the safety of those 99 Israeli athletes is one of the great security challenges that his department has posed, and he recalled that they will be permanently protected by two special forces of law enforcement, the Police Raid and the GIGN of the Gendarmerie.

"The Israeli team is particularly protected," but it is not the only one, he pointed out before noting that special attention will also be paid to delegations such as those from the United States, Iran, Palestine or Ukraine.

  1. Personally, although I support the State of Israel, I believe that the country should not participate in the Olympic Games. It is an ethical question. More than 10 thousand soldiers wounded in the war, more than 600 soldiers dead to date, more than 100 hostages in the hands of Hamas and Jihad. Northern Israel under fire from Hezbollah. More than 100 internally displaced people in the country. Data that makes you wonder if it is worth putting yourself at risk morally at the Olympic Games.

    1. The French police take care of everyone equally. You don't have to feel persecuted. The issue is that the world is in a new Cold War and right now conscience and security should take precedence over personal achievements and medals. In Israel, people die every day in a war; I think that a country so troubled should not be in the middle of sporting celebrations. If the Haredim are sent to the Tzavah, what happens to the athletes? Everyone should be equal in service.

  2. I don't doubt the French police. Yes, of the morale of those who, in the midst of a war with more than 600 dead soldiers, more than 10 wounded soldiers, with more than 100 hostages in Gaza and with the Hezbillah siege, go to France for personal achievements. There are 99 citizens who are not on the front.
