New initiative strengthens efforts to monitor, expose and combat antisemitism and anti-Zionism through training, analysis and collaboration.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Confederação Israelita do Brasil (CONIB) today announced a new partnership to strengthen efforts to combat antisemitism, anti-Zionism, and extremist threats in Brazil. This initiative builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two organizations in 2023 and expands their commitment to researching, monitoring, and combating antisemitic threats.
As part of the agreement, two CONIB delegates will work with ADL’s Center on Extremism (COE) to gain experience in analyzing and countering extremist activities. Through a structured program, COE analysts and researchers will provide hands-on training in monitoring, incident response, and threat assessment. This exchange will equip CONIB with critical tools to assess and counter extremist threats targeting Jewish communities across Brazil.
“With anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism on the rise around the world, partnerships like this are key to ensuring that Jewish communities in Latin America and other regions have the tools to protect themselves,” said Marina Rosenberg, ADL Senior Vice President for International Affairs. “By collaborating with CONIB, we are strengthening the fight against extremism in Brazil and expanding ADL’s global reach in monitoring and combating anti-Semitism and hate.”
The collaboration, which will include training in digital threat monitoring, investigative best practices, and response strategies, will leverage ADL’s decades of experience in tracking and countering extremism. Additionally, the program will establish new channels for information sharing between ADL and CONIB, strengthening long-term cooperation in investigative and response efforts.
“The partnership between CONIB and the ADL represents a significant step forward for the Jewish community in Brazil. The ADL is a pioneering organization that has always been at the forefront of issues of defamation and hate speech, as well as in the fight against anti-Semitism, constantly updating its strategies in response to societal changes,” said CONIB President Claudio Lottenberg. “By joining forces with such a prominent organization, we aim to strengthen the fight against rising anti-Semitism in Brazil, promoting the safety and well-being of the Brazilian Jewish community.”
The initiative will officially launch in March with a training program at ADL headquarters in New York, where CONIB delegates will work alongside COE experts to gain direct experience in threat monitoring, open source intelligence research, and incident response.
“ADL’s Center on Extremism’s collaboration with CONIB will provide our Brazilian partners with valuable insights into the COE’s expertise, tools, and strategies for countering extremism, anti-Semitism, and hate,” said Oren Segal, ADL Senior Vice President for Countering Extremism and Intelligence. “In this partnership, we will share best practices in incident response, reporting, and open-source intelligence gathering techniques. Like the many other partnerships ADL has developed over the years, this initiative strengthens our mission to protect communities and counter extremism.”
