A 31-year-old woman, who was not wearing the Islamic veil required in Iran, has been left paralyzed after being shot in the back by security forces, according to media reports.

This is Arezou Badri, a mother of two young children, who was shot on July 22 while driving in the city of Nour, in the northern province of Mazandaran, for failing to heed the police order to stop, according to a recent report by BBC Persian, citing an informed source.

The officers tried to stop her car when they realized there was an order to impound the vehicle for not respecting the strict hijab code.

The measure has been applied in the country in recent months to force the use of the Islamic veil.

Through a text message, the authorities notify the owners of the cars captured with unveiled women that their car will be confiscated.

That has been the case of Badri, when she did not stop, the agents first shot at the tires of the vehicle and then aimed at her and the bullet hit her in the back.

After about ten days, doctors managed to remove the bullet from Badri's waist, but his lungs and spinal cord were severely damaged, so he cannot walk.

According to doctors, it is not yet known whether the woman has been permanently or temporarily paralyzed.

Badri is currently under tight security measures in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Tehran's Valiasr Hospital and officers only allow her family to visit her for a few minutes, after taking away their mobile phones, to prevent images of her from appearing. the victim.

Since last April, the Iranian authorities launched a campaign called 'Plan Light' in order to impose the use of the Islamic veil on women who had stopped wearing it after the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022, in police custody. for not wearing the hijab properly.

Amini's death sparked massive protests across the country calling for greater social freedoms and the end of the Islamic Republic and continued for months.

Finally, the security forces managed to put down the protests with a repression that left about 500 dead. EFE
