A new report from the Israeli Ministry of Health reveals the main causes of death in the country

El Ministry of Health, led since December 2022 by Arye Deri, recently published a report of more than 100 pages prepared by the ministry's data area, headed by Ziona Haklai.

The report reflects the main causes of death in Israel, and as a result of this the main issues to improve within the health system. Although the Coronavirus pandemic had a strong impact on mortality, global rates were positive compared to international levels.

When it comes to COVID-19, the disease was the third cause of death, in both men and women. But the truth is that Israel has one of the lowest Coronavirus mortality rates, according to numbers from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

In relation to other diseases, Israel also shows low mortality rates compared to other countries. Examples of this are heart disease and cancer, as well as accidents.

However, the country has higher rates for diseases or pathologies such as hypertension, influenza, diabetes, sepsis, kidney disease and influenza. According to the ministry's instructions, in these areas the system should improve its prevention, treatment and general care strategies.

The report also takes into account more specific situations. For example, he explains that the mortality rate among young citizens increased by 7%. One of its causes is the tragedy of the Mount Merón stampede in 2021, in which at least 45 people died.
