A recently released report details progress and plans to restore infrastructure and ensure the return of thousands of residents near the border with the Gaza Strip following the October 7 attack to their homes, administered under the Tekuma Directorate.

The Israeli government has already allocated nearly NIS 7.000 billion, or $1.970 billion, for the reconstruction of communities in southern Israel. Of this total, NIS 1.500 billion was allocated for the physical reconstruction of the most affected areas, with a focus on 10 communities, including Kibbutz Be'eri, Nir Oz and Kfar Aza.

On the other hand, 1.400 billion were used for the reconstruction of infrastructure, security and public buildings, to be carried out over the next five years.

According to the report, 83% of the region's 64.000 inhabitants have now returned to their homes, although 13 communities are still in temporary shelters due to security concerns or severe damage.

At the end of March, residents of Kerem Shalom and Re'im will be able to return to their homes, and in the coming months, residents of Nirim and Nahal Oz will also be able to return.

In Sderot, the directorate has allocated NIS 55 million to improve public spaces and strengthen medical infrastructure, with a significant increase in family medicine, psychiatry and pediatric services.

The report also highlights the economic boost to the region, with NIS 380 million in subsidies for 350 commercial farms and NIS 111 million for 180 local businesses.
